The Royal Handmaiden Society Introduction
The Royal Handmaiden Society's main goal is to bring light to the forgotten characters of Star Wars prequels: the Royal Handmaidens. They are young women who follow Queen (and later Senator) Amidala of Naboo everywhere she goes to assist and protect her. They were chosen by the Queen herself upon her election for their courage, intelligence, fitness and resemblance to her.
The Royal Handmaidens are advisors, confidants, bodyguards and assistants to Queen (later Senator) Amidala. They also help her with her elaborate gowns, hairstyles and makeup. Amidala has become close friends with her handmaidens, and she values their company.
There are five Royal Handmaidens in Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Their names are Sabé, Rabé, Eirtaé, Yané and Saché. Sabé is also known as the decoy Queen. Whenever danger arises, Amidala disguises herself as a simple handmaiden and takes the name of Padmé Naberrie, while Sabé assumes the role of the Queen.
In The Phantom Menace, the handmaidens were played by Keira Knightley (Sabé), Karol Cristina da Silva (Rabé), Friday 'Liz' Wilson (Eirtaé), Candice Orwell (Yané) and Sofia Coppola (Saché).
In Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, the handmaidens are played by Rose Byrne (Dormé) and Veronica Segura (Cordé) with a third handmaiden, Versé, played by an uncredited actress. The new Queen of Naboo, Jamillia, is played by Ayesha Dharker.
In Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the handmaidens are played by Chantal Freer (Ellé) and Kristy Wright (Moteé). Apailana, the Queen of Naboo, is played by Keisha Castle-Hughes.
